The highly anticipated final match concluded the annual tournament organized by the Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) as part of activities to celebrate National Heroes’ Day.

The UR basketball team secured victory through strong determination and teamwork against a Kepler side eager to lift the trophy. The game ended with a narrow margin of just six points.

The game showed great determination between the two teams

The tournament, which began at the end of January, featured six teams divided into two groups. Group A included UR Kigali, CBT, and Black, while Group B comprised Thunders, Kepler, Flame, and Hoops Rwanda.
The victory was met with excitement among the University of Rwanda leadership. The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Strategic Planning and Administration, Dr. Raymond Ndikumana, described the win as a moment of great pride for the institution.

“For the University of Rwanda team to win this trophy on the day we commemorate our national heroes is a great joy. These games bring young people together and remind them of the values of heroism and Rwandan culture,” he said.

The Secretary General of FERWABA, François Regis Gahuranyi, emphasized that the tournament goes beyond sport and serves as a platform to promote national values.

“This is an annual competition aimed at bringing together players and fans to celebrate Rwanda’s Heroes’ Day, while also demonstrating our commitment to honoring the heroism that has characterized our country,” noted Gahuranyi.

For the University of Rwanda players, the trophy marks the beginning of a new chapter.

Hirwa Boris, one of the standout performers, said the tournament has motivated the team to pursue more trophies in upcoming competitions.

His teammate, Rurangirwa Ngenzi Lewis, added that the victory demonstrates the team’s potential to achieve even greater success this year.
