Shortly after he was elected as the Chairperson of ARSO, Dr. Christian Sekomo indicated that there was a problem to have different academic and research staff associations in one institution and with different objectives. He explained that ARSO will help its members to have one vision in line with objectives of UR and the country’s vision. “Given that we have now one organization, it will be a platform for all of us in entire University of Rwanda to sit together and exchange on how we can find solutions to different challenges our Higher education is facing such as quality of Education, shortage of research outputs that contribute to efforts resolving problems of the Rwandan society”, He stated.
Speaking to media, Dr. Marie Françoise Mwabonimana, a senior Lecturer in the College of Agriculture, Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine commended her colleagues who worked tirelessly to make possible the foundation of ARSO. She said: “All academic and Research Staff of UR irrespective of different colleges or campuses we come from, we are under one institution, we should have one vision. That was not easy considering that we were scattered but from today we will have a common understanding and join our hands. With that fact of being united there is no doubt that we will become stronger and deliver what the country is expecting from us.”
In the near future, ARSO will be mobilizing Academic and Research Staff members to set up committees at every campus.
