South Korean Handong Global University officials visit UR

Senior officials from South Korea’s Handong global University, Prof. Jinwon Ahn and Prof. Myoung-Sool Do paid a visit to the University of Rwanda headquarters on Tuesday 8th August 2017 under the network for capacity building for sustainable development of developing countries, the main purpose of the visit was to interact with UR senior management and to identify potential areas for future academic partnership and collaboration as well as establish a long term cooperation in various fields.

During deliberations on the future collaboration and partnership between the two Universities.

In his welcoming remarks, the Vice Chancellor Prof.Phil Cotton welcomed them and looked forward to establishing a working collaboration between the two universities; the meeting was also attended by the Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for institutional advancement Amb. Dr.Charles Murigande, the Acting Principal for the College of Business and Economics, Franciose Kayitare Tengera, the Director of teaching and learning enhancement and the Director in charge of entrepreneurship at UR.

Quoting the HGU president from their university website “HGU has uniquely contributed to the advancement of education by creatively using global human resources for a holistic education that develops character and knowledge, competency is strengthened not with knowledge-delivery education styles or teaching by note memorization but with practical education”.

As an outcome of the fruitful meeting, both teams proposed to have a joint education program to raise local experts who can contribute to socio economic development of their countries with a global perspective by jointly developing the contents and curriculum for identified and agreed upon programmes, to start with the training of trainers, and offer joint degree programs in entrepreneurship. A follow-up training session in this regard for senior academics is to take place this week.
