Nurses and Midwives meet to develop an Action Plan towards SDGs achievement

Nurses and Midwives across the African Continent meet from 25th to 26th September 2017 at Kigali Center and Exhibition Village (KCEV) to have an articulated agenda on the African Continent towards achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). The Pre-conference under the theme “Articulating Nursing Agenda for the Achievement of SDGs in Africa” gathered participants from DRC, Nigeria, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, United States and South Africa. It is an opportunity for them to work together and articulate on how Nurses and Midwives in Africa and the Regulatory Bodies may act as influencers to Policy makers.

The workshop aims to document what is happening at different country levels in relation to nursing and midwifery responses towards the achievement of sustainable development goals. Participants will also develop an action plan to facilitate the implementation and the achievement of the SDGs across the continent as relevant to nursing and midwifery.

Doctor Florence Folami, a participant from Nigeria asserts that her expectations from this conference are to collaborate with other organizations and have focus and ways to implement and articulate the nursing agenda for the SDGs Goals.” I hope that at the end of this conference I should identify two to three partners we can work together to meet the goals”, she said.
This pre-conference scheduled from 26-27 September , 2017 comes in light of the 2nd International Nursing and Midwifery Conference under the theme ”Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals for Better Health and Improved Quality of Life : Shifting perspectives and transforming care“ to be held from 27th -29th September 2017 at KCEV.
